Welcome!

Hi! Welcome! My name is Rachel Gerhardt and I’m currently a hospital administrator in Pittsburgh, PA. I started my career in Boston, MA, then moved on to Baltimore, MD, and have now been in Pittsburgh for just over a year. Starting this blog is something I've wanted to do for quite some time. The Notes and Reminders apps in my phone are filled with random thoughts and things I've wanted to write and talk about, especially over the last 2-3 years.

Almost daily, I see something or read something healthcare related that I want to talk about, which is really a big piece of inspiration behind this blog. For example, in the last week, I saw a billboard driving down the highway that referred to introducing Artificial Intelligence in hospitals around the Pittsburgh area which made me google the company and read more about what they are doing. On a trip last weekend for a wedding, I saw a newspaper article about the cost of procedures at hospitals around the country and what various insurance companies paid for these procedures based on the location and insurance plan. There is so much to unpack in these two topics alone and I want this to be the platform where I can do that.

Ultimately, my goal is to create a platform where I share my thoughts and experiences about the healthcare system - including health policy, delivery, and management. I hope it is relatable and real and also sparks conversation. I plan to discuss current events in healthcare as well as general things that pop into my mind relating to health, wellness, administrative fellowships, hospitals, and the healthcare system in general.

I hope this will be a source of information, inspiration and dialogue. I truly think, now more than ever, is the time for change and the time to start implementing innovative delivery methods in to healthcare. I want to be part of this transformation and invite you to join me and share your thoughts.

I can't wait to get started!

Rachel
